What to expect: Pick-up Appointment + Beyond

Picking up your wedding dress? We have tips to help you prepare for your pick up appointment, alterations, garment care and more!

Pick-up season is upon us! Your wedding day is around the corner, your dress has arrived and you are abuzz with what your next steps are. We’re here to walk through everything you need, dress in hand, to take you from S+B to the altar.

The Moment You’ve Been Waiting For

We get it, it’s been months, and your dress is finally here! You can expect an email from us as soon as it arrives (make sure we don’t go to spam) to share the exciting news and get you booked in for your pick-up appointment.

Your Pick-up Appointment is where you’ll try on your dress once again, get all your questions answered, discuss next steps and pay any final balance before you head off with your dress! So let’s get to it:

Tips For A Successful Appointment

After you’ve been notified your dress has arrived it’s time to book your 30 minute Pick-up Appointment. There’s a couple things we always recommend to ensure a great appointment:

  • Come excited! We know it can be a little nerve-wracking to try on your dress for the first time in MONTHS; there’s usually a lot of anticipation and maybe a little bit of trepidation, but we’re here to get you excited and make you feel supported throughout your whole journey and that doesn’t just end when you leave S+B.
  • Upon arrival be sure you and your guest(s) wash your hands, your stylist will be sure to do the same thing to keep your dress looking super fresh.
  • Speaking of fresh; a fresh face at your Pick-up Appointment is absolutely the way to go. It’s tempting to throw on a glam beat to go with your dress, but we want to ensure your dress stays as fresh as possible.
  • Bring any undergarments you’re thinking of wearing on the day; we can also help give you tips for what to wear as well if you need help.
  • Be prepared for alterations. Alterations are always needed to fit the dress to your unique shape. So once you’re in the dress, soak up the gorgeous sight, then we can go over how you’re feeling and what you can look forward to in alterations.

After that, we’ll help set you up with all your next steps.

Garment care and next steps:

Got your dress in hand, but don’t worry bestie, we’re not sending you away without tips on what to do next:

  • One of the first things you’ll want to do after your Pick-up Appointment is book your alteration appointment, as typically you’ll want to start those at least 8 weeks before the wedding. In your dress bag you’ll find a QR code with all our recommended tailors, you can also find that list here
  • Keep your gown stored, either hung or folded in the breathable fabric garment bag it arrived in. Wrapping your dress in plastic could lead to discolouration. Your dress will be perfectly safe stored in the bag until you’re ready to start your alterations.
  • Store your dress in a temperature controlled space (no basements or attics; anything with excessive moisture) and out of direct sunlight – so a bedroom or hall closet is ideal.
  • If your dress has straps ensure that it is hung by the satin hanger loops. The weight of the dress over time may cause the dress’ straps to stretch.
  • Resist the urge to touch or try it on. We know this one is tricky, but the oils on our skin can lead to discolouration.
  • A little tip is to always put a finger behind the zipper when you zip and unzip the bag to ensure the zipper doesn’t catch on the dress, this is key if your dress is tulle.
  • Our last tip is if you’re flying with your dress, call your airline ahead of time – you may not need to check the dress, the flight attendant can normally put it somewhere safe for you.

We got ya!

And like always, we’re here for you. Just because you’re leaving with the dress doesn’t mean our support is over. If you have questions or need anything, we are always happy to help you at any stage in your bridal journey!

Thanks for shopping with us and we can’t wait to see you rock your gown as a #SashAndBustleBride
