Our Favourite Wedding Trends from NYBFW

You won’t want to miss out on these trends if you are a 2026/2027 bride!

The wedding industry is ever-evolving, blending timeless traditions with fresh, creative ideas that make each celebration unforgettable. Last week, we were lucky enough to attend New York Bridal Fashion Week! There were many trends we saw while there, some new emerging trends, and some making comebacks. Here were our favourite trends we saw while there!

Shawls

Wedding shawls are the quiet magicians of bridal style, drifting in like a soft whisper and transforming a look with effortless grace. They add warmth for breezy outdoor ceremonies or a touch of modesty for more traditional settings. A shawl can frame the gown like a work of art, highlighting intricate beadwork or softening a structured silhouette, all while giving the bride a versatile accessory she can slip on or off as the day unfolds. Beyond practicality, it’s undeniably romantic about a shawl catching the light or fluttering in a gentle breeze, as if it’s part of the love story itself.

Peplums

Wedding dresses with peplums bring a playful architecture to bridal fashion, like a soft flourish sketched at the waistline. This structured, yet romantic, detail adds dimension and movement, creating a flattering silhouette. Whether crafted from crisp satin for a modern, sculptural effect or layered lace for a more ethereal feel, peplums offer a fresh twist on classic bridal design. They can evoke vintage elegance or contemporary drama depending on the cut, making them a versatile choice for brides who want something a little unexpected. There’s a certain charm in the way a peplum moves with each step, adding just enough drama to feel like a quiet celebration stitched into the gown itself.

Victorian Vibes

Victorian aesthetics are sweeping back into bridal fashion like a page from a forgotten romance novel, rich with detail and quiet drama. Inspired by the elegance of the Victorian era, modern gowns are embracing long lace sleeves, corseted bodices, princess ballgowns, and intricate button detailing that feels both regal and deeply personal. Designers are reimagining these classic elements with lighter fabrics and softer silhouettes, creating a balance between old-world charm and contemporary ease. The look feels timeless, yet striking, perfect for brides drawn to a sense of history, artistry, and a touch of poetic nostalgia woven into every stitch.

Water Basque Waists

Unlike the traditional basque waist with its dramatic plunge, this version feels more fluid and romantic, contouring the torso in a way that elongates the body while adding a touch of graceful movement. A water basque waist is like a gentle ripple stitched into a gown, where the waistline dips and curves in soft, wave-like points rather than a single sharp V. It creates a beautifully sculpted silhouette without feeling rigid, almost as if the fabric is flowing naturally around the bride. Brides love water basque waists for their ability to blend structure with softness—they highlight the waist, flatter the hips, and bring a unique, couture-inspired detail that feels both elegant and effortlessly dreamy.

This NYBFW was definitely one for the books! We are always so impressed with the designs we see and people we meet. Excited for the next Fashion Week already!
