This is a tribute to the S&B Sister’s grandparents, who showed them what hard work and risk-taking can bring to your life!
As you may know S&B is owned by sisters Vanessa & Andrea. They grew up with a big dream to one day own their own retail store. In 2014 that dream became their reality! With a whole lot of dreaming and belief in each other they continually push the needle forward and see the fruits of their labour come to life at S&B. Their entrepreneurial spirits are very much attributed to their grandparents and their strong work ethic. Vangele & Para Traicus always set a shining example of what hard work and dedication looks like.
Vangele & Para immigrated to Canada in the early 1950’s, and like many immigrants came with what they could carry on their backs and barley a dollar to their name. By relying on family and sticking together they were able to rise up and over the decades built a beautiful empire to be proud of. They sacrificed and swallowed their pride every step of the way. They eventually were presented the opportunity to purchase one of Toronto’s most famous independent restaurants, the most noteworthy being The Tulip and The Lakehouse! It was a family affair! Even one year old Vanessa helped work the till on busy weekends.
In 2014 the sisters channelled their inner Vangele & Para, took a leap of faith and opened S&B! This leap of faith came with a whole lot of mentorship from their grandparents. Without their coaching, trust and guidance S&B wouldn’t exist today! A vivid moment Andrea remembers when talking to her grandfather Vangele about the opportunity for S&B, he said “Well it seems like a big risk! But if you don’t try you’ll never know if it can be a success. And if you fail, well at least you can say you tried.” That was it! The sisters jumped and the rest is history!
Vanessa & Andrea are eternally grateful for the sacrifice, love and mentorship of their grandparents. For if it weren’t for their ambition and vision, their big dreams wouldn’t be possible.
